Thomas Berry and the Earth Community 
Thomas Berry (1914 - 2009), is a leading American writer about the human relationship with the Earth and the Universe. The Earth Community website is dedicated to putting forward his integral vision so that the ideas may take root in our world and flower independently in many people's lives. In the vision of Thomas Berry, the primary sacred community is the universe. Every being and every other community becomes sacred by participating in this primary community. The Earth community is our immediate expression of those larger realities which we know through our sciences as well as through our poetry, our art and our religious intuitions. Today, humans have become a force of nature - a geological force in our own right - and the Earth community stands at a pivotal moment of planetary evolution. This moment was perceived very early in Thomas Berry's life as he regarded the cascade of changes brought on by the industrial-technological dreams of Western civilization throughout the 20th century. For many decades Berry has been calling us to pay attention to the most important relationship of all - our relationship with the Earth community. In a situation of growing global ferment, the work of Thomas Berry is extraordinarily valuable and offers a very significant beacon by which to navigate our path into the future.
